Multiple chassis in one head?
« on: December 16, 2015, 11:49:19 am »
I have a friend who bought an empty Marshall head but can't use it for his intended purpose so he is willing to just give it to me... The head is quite large (I think it is for the DSL 100w)

Long story short... I am trying to figure what my options are with this thing. I have built a JTM45 and an 18W TMB... and even those are really too much amp for my needs. I was wondering if having two low wattage chassis in the same head would be a possibility? Any concerns with something like this? I think it would be neat to have a low watt fender and marshall side by side that I could ABY?

Any thoughts?

I think sluckey has the plans for just the kind of dual amp you are thinking about.

Check out his web site, link on his web site thread.

I looked at his website and couldn't really find anything... But this head is larger than I originally thought. It will fit two of the stout chassis in it for sure. I will get a picture later on.

I forgot what it was called, but he had an 18W that with the flip of a switch you went from a Fender to a Marshall sound.

I also don't see the thread about his website any more, or I would have gone there and posted a link for you.

I'm sure you'll find it, if you're really interested.  He's got all the info you need to make that kind of an amp.   :icon_biggrin:

The link to my website can always be found under my name just to the left of any post I make. Just click the little "world" icon.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

See also Doug's Library page for more ideas on stereo guitar amps.  Of course this requires 2 speakers.

As you say, if 18W is more than you need, then 2X 18W may not be your direction.  Another option is stereo Champs @ only 5W each.  Reverb and tremolo, etc., can be added.  There is a website on such a build on the internet.

Yet another approach might be multiple preamp channels each dedicated to an amp type.
