Eminence Private Jack
« on: January 09, 2016, 03:45:25 pm »
Had one given to me by a musician friend that I buy a lot of gear from. I did a little research on it and found it was suppose to have a British sound, I suppose like a Greenbacks? I have an Allen Accomplice that sounds kind of spiky to me with the Texas Heat--so I decided to try the PJ in that.
Wow! The PJ seems to have done the job. A lot thicker less bright sound---So far I'm really liking it!

They are darker slightly so for a bright amp this would be a good choice. But I sold mine and kept the GB128 which to me was a bit closer sounding to a G12M I thought. But these are so close that you have to A/B them to really tell the nuances between them.

What is the GB128? I'm not pulling any memory up on that one. Platefire

OK, Thanks! Another Eminence. I would probably like that better than the PJ with the fatter low end.
Spikey Treble drives me crazy these days. I think that's why I find myself playing on my LP lately instead of my normal tele or strat.

And your right about the subtle nuances in tone between them, I am having more and more trouble hearing the difference. I'm sure it's an old age thing with me.

In the morning I can jam on an amp/guitar and it will sound bright to me and latter in the day jam on the same guitar/amp/settings and it sound mellower. My hearing perception changes through the day.

My friend that gave me the speaker ask me how I liked it and I told him it sounds good sometimes and bad the other. Not sure he appreciated that, but it was the truth. Not the speaker fault though. Platefire

Don't let Jimbo hear that tele talk!?

I don't think it's just you or your ears? We all have that thing called "fresh ears". My feeling is that our bodies are remarkable in the way it adapts to our environments. A similar analogy I'll use will be how our eyes take a couple of minutes to adjust going from the bright outdoors into a dark office or room. Same as going into a very dark room and after a few minutes the eyes adjust the other way and we can see fairly well considering. I think our ears do a very similar kind of thing?

IMHO a tele is a necessity to cover all the bases. I go so long and I've got to have some tele time. You shouldn't have got me started. Jimbo will just have to suffer through it :l2:

BTY--another Emi speaker I really enjoy is the Rajun Canjun. Very well balanced with good things. That is what's in my practice cab that I rotate my different DIY heads on.

Saturday was such a beautiful day, very little wind. blue skys, just the right temperature. I said to the wife, lets set up on the porch and play. She said "lets Go!". So I started right after lunch setting up the PA, her electric Piano, my Allen Accomplice with the PJ speaker. I used my JamMan looper where I have about 30 backing tracks recorded of my songs that I send through the PA. That's my backup band. We started playing about 3:00 PM and played almost straight trough to about 5:30 PM--almost dark. I used one of my rejuvenated thrift shop strats and Man!!! did it sound good and plenty loud un-miked. I was really happy with what I was hearing. My chops were a little rusty but what I did get right sounded fine. The birds and bee's didn't mind :l2:

Folks were driving by(about 100ft to the road) slowing down, rolling their window down and some turned around and drove by real slow.

BTW- Folks spring is breaking out here in the South

So a long story short, the PJ is a good match for the Accomplice and had a great time jamming on my porch. Platefire

She said "lets Go!".
Jammin' with your wife! That has to be a special blessing. Enjoy Platefire.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Nice story plate. My wife doesn't play music, surf, or golf and that's a good thing in my world.
