On the bench: UREI 1176LN and 1178 audio compressors
« on: February 27, 2016, 11:27:28 pm »
A good friend of mine has asked me to go through his newly acquired audio compressors and get them ready for the beginning of April, just in time for the opening of his brand new built from ground up recording studio.  I have wanted to have a look inside this gear for a long time and now it's my time!

It looks like I have my work cut out for me.  One of the VU meter's is not working and will need to be replaced.  There is a switch wired in to the one VU meter that does work, it selects between channel A or B.  One meter, two channels is better than none I guess.  I have been looking online for this meter replacement and have come up empty so far.

First thing is to make a list of the electrolytic caps to replace.... off to work I go.

I figured I would ask if any of the guys here have serviced these before?

There is lots of info on these online, so I'll have all the info to my hearts content.

for this meter replacement
Guessing you tested the meter, sometimes there's a R in circuit that dies before the movement.

I have not tested it, I am not even sure how to test a VU meter to be honest.

There are forums full of 1176 fanatics. Might be best to expose your project on one of them.
