Back to the days of yesteryear!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thought you guys might like this. I was going through a bunch of my old junk (my wife's description - neat stuff to me!) and found an old Walter Ashe catalog from 1965. Walter Ashe was somewhat of a celebrity in the St. Louis area in the 60's. All the Ham radio/TV repair guys bought from him and anyone building anything electronic knew him and his store well. Tandy Radio Shack bought the family out in the late 60's after he passed away. Anyway, I thought I would share some pricing from back then:
Mullard EL34 $3.06
Mullard KT66 $4.50
Mullard EL86 $1.56
Mullard EL84 $1.44
MO KT88 $6.95
RCA 6550 $4.59
RCA 5881 $3.10
RCA 6L6 $4.21
RCA 6V6 $3.31
The largest power tranny (600-0-600) was $12.00 and the lower voltages were cheaper. Output trannies were also $12.00 on down.
A Jensen 12 inch "Bell cone electric guitar speaker" was $21.14 - oh, it also said it was heavy duty!
A Dynakit 70 watt stereo amp kit was $99.95 with 4 EL34's.

Of course in today's dollars we are still talking about a few bucks, but it is still fun to look back! Hope I did not depress anyone!
