Plate,
I genuinely appreciate the encouraging and kind words! I do enjoy playing (& building of course). And for some inexplicable reason, my lack of talent has not cramped my enthusiasm to try and have fun with it.
Best regards, Jeff
Jeff, you are far from lacking talent. I thing you are a really good player, much more advanced than average. The amp sounds great as well.
We are our worst critics. We hear a recording and we never hear the mistakes, but ALL players make them. I have even seen Eric Clapton and Joe Bonamassa miss notes. In the studio doing sessions we do many takes, lots with mistakes especially when first starting as you feel the pressure.
Back when I played professionally and was gigging almost every night and playing all the time I was not sloppy at all and could hit all the notes and rarely missed them, but sometimes I just felt the groove stronger.
Nowadays since I play for fun mostly, I can finally play what I like to play and I enjoy it more. That is what a hobby is all about. Sure, I can still play fast and still learn licks from the greats like Brent Mason, Jerry Reed, Chet and also I am no stranger to Blackmore and EVH.
I just love guitar and Platefire said it great. You know Billy Gibbons or David Gilmore do not play fast, but have incredible phrasing. I will say I have to have some speed to play what I love like Jerry Reeds version of Alabama Jubilee, but there are other approaches to the song like Roy Clark did that are not as difficult technically and sound really great.
I have finally quit comparing myself to other players. I play like me and you play like you. I can assure you if we were together on a Saturday afternoon eating BBQ and swapping licks we would have a ball and that is what it is about anyway.
Job well done and thanks for sharing it!
