Randy Hansen Machine Gun
« on: June 19, 2016, 07:52:33 pm »
I know I've posted Randy's stuff in the past but I just ran across this performance.  This guy just amazes me and a nice guy to boot.  This is probably my fav Hendrix song and he nails it.  From a 2016 concert.

To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.

Wow! Being an old Hendrix fan---that was a bowl full of Hendrix+

The look, vocals, guitar tone was spot on. Only thing Randy's stage antics where not quite as over the top as Hendrix did sometimes, but in a way to me, that's a good thing. I just love that extended jam type guitar.

Another thing, whoever is setting up his strats, knows his stuff. I notices his big E was getting just a hair off at the end but to endure that kind of punishment and stay in tune as well as it did is a testimony of to a great strat tech somewhere!

One thing, I won't forget Randy, Closes thing to Jimi I've heard or seen. Thanks, Platefire

Well Plate, here is an hour or so for you to indulge in!  Randy is a very cool guy, very humble.  I got to meet him back in the early 80's and we talked about his gear and Hendrix for about 20 minutes after a show.  Super nice guy.

Thanks! I watch about half+ and had to go. So much about my thoughts about stage antics :dontknow: . The guys got to be in good physical condition to do what he does. i've always liked the workings of a three piece power unit and he's carrying it to the ultimate max. I think even Hendrix would be impressed. Jimi was the innovator that brought that style forth. Randy appears to be perfecting it. Platefire

BTW------I wondering about Randy's creative element? Has he produced any notable original material kind of like Robin Trower?

Oh crap, not more Elvis, I mean Hendrix impersonators again

Why not watch the real thing instead of an impersonator

I do not get the whole impersonator thing at all

I had a girl that cut my hair many years ago that liked this Elvis impersonator more than Elvis
Go figure that one out

I like tribute acts.  The Pink Floyd and Zeppelin and Stones and the many many more tribute bands, for the most part, do a fine job recreating an era long gone with some youthful enthusiasm (Ritchie take note...).  Someone like Hendrix will obviously never be seen again.  I've seen people TRY to do Hendrix, but until Randy came along nobody was even close in my book.  Interesting story how he got his start.  He was in a band in the 60's that parodied the popular surf, folk, and psychedelic bands of the day.  Randy did a very good Hendrix and the venues started asking for "that Hendrix band".  So he got fired.   He put a group together and started honing his skills.  In 1979 he did the wild Hendrix-ish guitar solo for the night scene at the bridge in Apocalypse Now.  In 1980 he released his first album of originals and opened for bands like Hagar, REO, Seger, etc.  Kind of went back to the tribute act after that.  However he has been putting out albums and CDs for years now.

Plus, you really need to have some BIG attachments to pull off hallowed ground like Hendrix in front of more than a few guitar players and other "experts" who are critiquing you!

I will say this, I've heard and seen Hendrix Tribute and imitators ever since he died but Randy is the best I've seen. Plus Randy throws in extras of himself that is very tasty and refreshing that keeps it interesting.  Platefire
