Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow 6/18/2016
« on: June 19, 2016, 09:29:47 pm »
Well Blackers is out on tour with his "new" Rainbow lineup saying he wanted to turn it up again and rock.  Sigh.....  Unfortunately this sounds as sterile as a studio album with his amp in a room full of carpets...  I knew he wasn't going to go out with his stacks of Majors - as Dawk has/had all of them since about '93.  However, at least a half stack or two would have provided a semi nice backline.  Those Engl's sound like....yeah.  I know he is 71 but come on!!!  Instead of the nice lilting runs at low volume and crushing sustain at high with a marked difference between bridge and neck pickups (the pickup switch in which he is known for rowing constantly during solos to provide so many contrasts) - the notes just die and it all sounds like....yeah.  The only highlight is his playing.  He can still bring it.  The singer looks and acts like a deer in the headlights.  The keyboard player was Malmsteens back in the 80's and should be technically capable but seemingly incapable of reproducing Jon Lords sound or groove on the Purple stuff.  They are only doing a couple of Monsters of Rock shows in Germany and the UK.  Ritchie may be dipping his toe in to see what interest there is and how well they are received.  I would certainly go see him if he was close but this is as disappointing as the Cream reunion of about ten years ago when Clapton came out with his plinky plink strat and Fender Twin with a bunch of preamp fizz...  Led Zep KILLED it in their reunion show and Page wailed away.  Sabbath and Iomi continue to crush it.  Come on Ritchie!!!!  It's not that hard to figure out!!!!!!

That was painful. I know you must be really hurting.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Looks like the bass player stole some of Joe's pants.  :icon_biggrin:

Oh boy...that wasn't even a worth a B-rated venue, maybe a tribute band? Maybe something you'd see at a free concert in the park on a Sunday afternoon? That witch hat and robin hood tie up shirt are hideous. Oooh wait- but he's so mystical...? Ha! This must be due to his tighty whities riding up so high the Sherwood forest is lost through the trees? If that guitar gets any higher he may as well play it under his chin with a bow?

edit: c'mon jeembob - I was bagging on your boy and no response? Da Hawaiian life has affected you and mellowed you out (for the time being anyway)

How sad.

I must confess that I did not make it through the entire song.

Well, I'm speechless....
OK, no I'm not...THAT was awesome!!
Looks like they pulled him out of Percoset rehab and someone perched that hat up there and said "close enough"

Here you go...
Some of the beauty here is that this guy looks almost as ridiculous as the original. Not sure which wig is worse.

Now I can see why the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame told Richie to just stay away and please stay home. At this point "RIP Blackmore" no longer has room for his prima donna antics & behavior. The torch has not been handed off or even passed - it has been ROCKETED off of a launching pad! Steve Morse runs circles around him now. All hail the new king!

That Deep Purple Mk III video shows some of the magic this line up had - both Mk II and Mk III had IT. Rainbow had IT with every line up Ronnie James Dio was in. Wish I could say that for the band shown in the first video.
