Dots around knob in visio
« on: July 13, 2016, 12:03:00 am »
Does anyone know how to put dots or numbers equally around a knob in visio? I tried using a line around them and changing it to dots but it doesn't look good and you can't control the number of them well.

Drag a hexagon onto the sheet. Now put a small center drag circle at each of the 6 points of the hexagon and snap the center to the connection point of the hexagon. Type the numbers into the six circles. Delete the hexagon. Group the six circles. Now select the group and set to no lines. All that's left is six equally spaced numbers. If you need numbers 0-10 just start with two hexagons. One will be rotated to give 12 points. Add the circles as above. Save these grouped shapes to a stencil so they will be redily available.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

I'm having a little trouble. You said put a small center drag circle at each of the 6 points. I can't figure out how to set the small circles directly on the hexagon points

You must have view connection points turned on. In Visio 2010 the connection points (little blue x) will become visible as you drag the circle toward the hexagon. The hexagon has 7 connection points, one in the center and one at each vertex. The circle has one center connection point. When you have the circle connection point nearly aligned with the hexagon connection, a little red box will appear and a text block that says "glue to connection point". Release the mouse button at this time and the two shapes will glue together. See pic.

You don't have to delete the hexagon but when you have 6 circles glued to it, and have entered the numbers, then select all 7 shapes and set lines to none and fill to none. Then group all 7 so they become one shape. Resize as necessary.

Ahh, now I know what you meant about center drag circle. I was using the one in basic shapes instead and it wasn't working. Works now!
