Rebuilding a JTM clone
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
well I have sitting next to me a Holden Wasp XL guitar amp,
this was built in the 70's and appears to be a jtm or sl clone,
It has the usualy 4 inputs split to 2 channels, then treble, mid, bass, and presence controls,
what is really confusing me at the moment is that in the power amp section (done on a separate board) there is two ecc83's as well as the 2 el34's
I'm interested in converting this into a MV plexi with an extra (footswitchable) gain stage,
Any help would be great,
PS this is my first attempt at building an amp, have built my own FX pedals, and done some repair/mod work to my Peavey Classic 30, but this is the first time from scratch
Cheers

They may have been using the ecc83s as phase inverters. rather than a 12AT7 and running the two halves of the tube in parallel for more current, or something like that. How does the amp sound or is it functional? Geoff

Well it's semi functional, It does run however it's noisey and the tone is not wonderful,
I have decided to strip it and start from scratch, and a build a BFSR from dougs AB763 layout, and then mod it with some stuff from TUT (altho I don't have a copy, and the people who sell it here in New Zealand want $150 for it)
I have options to look at, but any suggestions would be appreciated
Cheers
Blair
