This amp came in this past weekend.  Pretty nice one.

I just opened it up tonight and let the owner know what he has.  He is quite happy and gave me instructions to do what I would do, if it were my personal amp.

It clearly has had some previous work done.  I haven't planned what I am doing yet but I have a few ideas.

I haven't opened up the speaker cabinet yet but it looks like it has a tone ring in it.  It is a 15" speaker too.  I'll open that up tonight and maybe even play her for a bit. edit...it turned out to be a 12M6 Oxford actually.


The owner has asked me to do a full servicing on it.  I'll go through and verify all the new components are correct and not mods, replace the original electrolytics, replace the 2 prong power cord and check the bias. I doubt it'll need much more than that.

I am considering a few things for the coupling caps....either leave them as is, replace the xicon's with my stash of blue molded caps so it's back to original, or install new orange drop's.  I'm gonna chew on that for a bit. There is no big rush on this job.  I get time to really study this amp.

WoW! that's a super clean looking amp.  I'm betting it won't need much more than a cap job.

Yeah kinda left me scratching my head too.


They did replace the cathode bypass capacitors though.

What impressed me was the amperex bugle boy and tung-sol preamp tubes and rca 5881's.  The silk screening on the bugle boy's is fantastic and the best I have ever see intact.

Opened the cabinet today and it is actually a 12" speaker.  It just looked larger than a 12" through the grill cloth.  It is the tone ring that threw me off there.


The speaker is a 12M6 Oxford.  465-138.  Which dates to 38th week of 1961 I think.


This tone ring is pretty cool. First time seeing one in person.
