Preamp grounds
« on: September 21, 2016, 11:36:18 pm »
Hi, on the Deluxe Lite I built I have the input/preamp sections on the same ground bus but I did not connect it to chassis. I have experimented with connecting this to chassis or not and I am not sure of any difference... but I suspect that it causes some reduction in ugly/blocking distortion. These are all speculations.... anyone know for sure what takes place with/without?

If the buss is connected to the input jacks then the input jacks are providing the chassis connection. This should be fine as long as the jacks are tight. I like to connect the buss to a dedicated chassis lug very close to the input jacks so I don't have to rely on tight jacks.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Once again completely overlooked something that was too obvious... input jacks.

I'm getting a slight bit of fizzle that gets stronger and weaker depending on how aggressive I play. It does not sound like bacon frying that I've read about, more of a relatively quiet fizz that will come and go as I let a note ring.
