5E3-inspired build in Crate SL-1 cabinet
« on: September 27, 2016, 10:56:39 pm »
Hey Team,

I am planning the design of a 5E3-inspired amp, but I am building it on a Crate SL-1 amp. I want to use the original look of the Crate, which means I will have to put a Baxendall-type tone stack in place of the single tone selection. As you can see below, that means Gain, Treble, Bass and Master controls. My confusion becomes manifest when I try and figure out where the "switch" has to occur, and what the ramifications will be downstream. Is it a simple plug and play switch, or will it involve me having to reconfigure everything from that point forward? If you know of another style of amp that would match my requirements without requiring reconfiguration, I would also like to hear about your thoughts.

I have an Eminence Texas Heat 12'' cone already installed.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking. How about building an AA763 (non-reverb blackface) Deluxe? That has separate treble & bass controls.

I think you have to zoom out from your thumbnail to get a better understanding of the overall topology. The second triode in an AA763 and most Fenders is to recover the signal losses the tone network creates.

I am not able to tell you how much loss a 5E3 tone-control network creates vs an AA763 vs a Baxandall network.
