Identify MM Tranny
« on: October 13, 2016, 08:52:35 am »
Ok Mercury experts,  A guy came in my shop last night and gave me a chassis he had laying around.  I of course stripped it down as it was not  the kinda of work I do.  The amp (who know what) was loaded with 2 - 6V6s and a 5U4 + 2 preamp tubes.  Anyway, the trannies is what I was really interested in.  They are MM and I am trying to sort out what I can build with them.

Do you MM guys recognize what this PT is and what I can build with it.  Before you ask I have not measured them yet as it was late and my pillow was calling me.

There are a lot of amps that fit that footprint. And you can probably use EL84s rather than 6V6s. Take your pick.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Yeah, I have so many damn amps now I wondering what to build next LOL.  I traded a 67 BM for a super cool Vibrolux Reverb last night, go figure.  I didn't need it but could not pass it up either.  It's a sickness I have...

I know you've built a lot of nice Fender style amps. Why not give one of the old Ampegs a go?

Well what I really want to build next is a cool steel guitar amp.  Like a single channel AB763, no Tremolo, KT66s, 5AR4, etc etc.  Maybe a 1x12 combo...

That sounds like a lite version of what you've been building.

Yeah I guess it is.  I just have this thing in my head about a cool tube steel amp.  I have several steel amps now like a NV400 and a Walker Stereo Steel.  Did a session last week and used my Princeton on steel and it was very nice.  Milkman is making some nice tube steel stuff as well

Call Patric at MM, he'll know. (They have dozens and dozens of iron sets.)

The amp (who know what) was loaded with 2 - 6V6s and a 5U4 + 2 preamp tubes.

That say's 5G9 tweed tremoluxe to me. Best dog gone little I've ever played through.
