Can anyone help with tolexing seamless corners?
« on: November 05, 2016, 09:36:08 am »
I've been building cabinets for years. I have strayed away from Tolex as much as I can though. Any Tolex covering I do turns out fine, but thats because the corners cover the bad parts.  :l2:

I really want to be able to do seamless corners. Can anyone tell me how? It looks like there are no relief cuts on seamless corners. In the photo provided, this is the front of the amp. Is the seam on the top of the amp? Or did they just heat the crap out of it and mold it to the radius?

I was relying on you! Your tolex job looked great!  :icon_biggrin:

Might just take some practice I guess. I got close the other day by just using heat. Looking for a good product to use for that piping too.

Google:  tolex seamless cormers.  Here's one hit from another forum:  https://www.forum-speakerbuildersupply.com/post?id=2378719&trail=15#1/target=_blank

It seems the corners are not truly seamless, but the technique hides the slit.

If you look at most amps without corner protectors, they do not have the front or back edges rounded over (i.e., the open sides of the cabinet, where the speaker baffle and the back will go).  You can still round over the edges where the sides meet as much as you want, but by leaving the front and back flat you only have to make a straight miter, and can skip the Y-cut you require for a double rounded corner.  This is vastly simpler.  VASTLY!  It also has a crisp, classy look to it which I usually prefer.

Like so.  This isn't quite PERFECT, but it's pretty good.
