So to make the power section triode........

....you just take the screen resistors and instead of sourcing from B+ you tie them to the plates instead?

Thanks. And yes, i know that and I have tried amps with triode switching before and disliked it mostly. But with one amp i liked it better than pentode so worth a try. I think if the amp is bright the chance of it sounding good is better, and this amp's pretty bright.

Triode mode generally yields less distortion than pentode mode.

Distortion is added harmonics, usually higher than the applied signal.  One way to interpret the additional higher frequencies is to say pentode mode sounds "brighter".

You can switch to triode mode for less output power and less output tube distortion.  However, you may also find something about the preamp circuit is causing your amp to sound bright.
