CD and Audio Amps
« on: November 23, 2016, 12:59:30 pm »
If i get a small CD player, that is designed to drive a pair of headphones, can i plug it into RCA Inputs of a small amplifier.?
I suppose that would mean a 3.5mm plug that splits into a Right and Left RCA plug.
Something like this.......
Thank You

yes, I've done the same with my CD players in the past into my Audio Amps, just got a mini input to RCA and you're good to go.

OK.....Thanks.
I thought there might be an odd Impedance or Voltage problem with the CD Player head-phone output going to the amplifier Input.
Thanks Again

Just do it.

The impedances are way off, but the headphone jack has far more power than needed, so you "want" the mismatch and neither side will object to it.

Depends a little on the player and the hi-fi and the needs. Some player phone jacks don't go above 0.3V un-loaded. Bare power amps need over a Volt to get all the power you paid for. Still fine for background. Hi-fi "line inputs" generally have some gain before the power amp, though with the rise of 2V CD players some of these line-stage gains have been slipping.

I have already changed things a bit.
This all revolves around trying to use a pair of Klipsch KG1 speakers that my wife has had sitting on a shelf for the last several years.

So......i took an old DVD player, and screwed it into one of these i have had in a box.

I connected the Klipsch to the amp, and it really sounds nice playing a CD.
Not sure how much of a "pre-amp" is inside of a DVD Player, or if there is any preamp in the little power amp.....but is does sound good. :dontknow:
