Wednesday morning I found myself heading back to the northern tundra, I just crossed the NC boarder, 730am. About 100yrds ahead, I watched as a bald eagle appears from the tree-tops, banks hard left, showing full colors and splendor.  On the right wing about ½ way down was a 2” diameter white spot of feathers!  As I’m watching the bird, he straightens, banks back hard right, flares out and just as I pass snags breakfast from the side of the road and works like hell to re-gain altitude and speed. I  return to driving, look up an there are the mountains, just enough light through the clouds to show the fog burning off.  The last 40yrs I’ve re-charged my batteries in the eastern mountains, and it’s still an amazing sight.  Now I’m saying thanks to God, finish and pop on the radio, the chorus to Hark the herald… kicks in!  More thanks, wait, there’s more…..
Those mountains are in the Pisgah NF, my trip was assisting on an amp project, If you still believe in coincidence the matched pair of KT88’s will be there by Christmas

I tag on and say Amen! I love the mountains too, and go visit them pretty often as I did this October to Branson Mo. and drove through the backwoods across southern Mo. down through Northern Arkansas through my Grandpa/Grandma Lamore old town, Salem Arkansas. Drove on and spent the night in Mountain View Ark----and then on home back to Louisiana. After so long, I have to go get a dose of the mountains. Your blessed to have them close at hand.

Back here in Northwest Louisiana is mostly rolling hills, red clay and Pine Trees. I wrote a song about it in the 70's called "Pine Jungle". It's something special on a sunny day hearing the wind blow through the pines. I'm surrounded by them on every hand:>) but it's in my blood and is home to me. I thank the Lord for it and talk to him about it all along the way. I experienced kind of the same thing this year while walking through the woods by the house. I spotted a hawk in the top of this old dead oak tree and as I got closer the hawk made a dive toward the ground into some bushes apparently after some pray but he must of missed because when he came up, couldn't see anything he had. I've also came across bobcats, wildcats(panther?), foxes, coyotes, wolfs and deer. I love those encounters and that fuels my fire that when I pick up my ax over that DIY amp, it all kind of pours out>>>>>>>

There are beautiful bald eagles and osprey around the lakes here in the Charlotte, NC area. Really fun watching them!  Last couple of fishing trips to lake Wylie, I've seen osprey dive into the water not too far from the boat.

I've lived and hiked in Colorado (Rockies), Arkansas (Ozarks), and North Carolina Blue Ridge mountains. We live in a really beautiful country. The Pisgah area (where Doug lives) is one of the prettier areas around here.

Bob,  my parents were from DeRidder and I went to high school there a couple of years when my dad was deployed.  Beauregard Parrish was considered the pine capital of the world at one point. I loved the pine trees there & have great memories about the Anacoco river in that area.  (this was before Boise Cascade was ever there)

Attached is a recent picture I took just a few months ago of the BlueRidge mountains.  We drove from Asheville up to the Blowing Rock area which was about a 4 hr drive and spectacular.

Linville Falls is just over 2 hours from my house.

Linville Falls is just over 2 hours from my house.

The majority of my NC rock-climbing was done in the Linville gorge.  If you weren't on your game there a simple broken arm could become deadly.  My current amp project is named after a classic climb, The Daddy, the mummy is just around the corner, a couple of great "big-air" climbs

Wow, those are some beautiful pics!  As pictures go, they usually do not do the subject justice so I can imagine how incredible it would be in person.  We are truly blessed in this country.

Wow! Tubenit, beautiful pictures. My youngest daughter lives in NC and we visit her there almost every summer---long drive from Louisiana. What I like about NC----where she lives it looks just like where I live here in Louisiana, drive a few miles to the west you have Atlantic Ocean, drive North you have mountains. All kind of historic places to visit also. NC has a little bit of everything. Cool state! Platefire
