"The Twin" (red knob one) Schematic ?
« on: December 22, 2016, 12:43:28 pm »
Hey does anyone have a fairly high quality copy of a schematic for the 87-94 (I believe)  "The Twin" amp?   I am doing some research on it to see if it's worth buying one and I'd like to see what's happening inside.   I have a pretty crappy one I found but it's low resolution and not really much of a help.   I was hoping someone had a real high quality re-draw of it maybe like some of the other things I've seen around here!

Overall the amp kind of looks like a nightmare electronically.. but you can get them pretty cheap.  And I just want a loud 2x12 to blast with fuzz and OD boxes anyway!
Thanks

-Brett

There's a good schematic in Hoffman's schematics library.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Yeah that's the one I have already.  Thanks though for pointing that out!

It looks kinda typical of most the older Fender schematics I've seen, but there is a ***LOT*** of stuff on that schematic. Still, it's legible enough to use for troubleshooting or evaluation. I bet even Fender doesn't have a 'better' schematic. That's not a popular amp. I've never seen a nice redraw.

Yeah. I agree, not very popular!  25w/100w switching and footswitchable overdrive are cool, but maybe they just ruined the magic of the twin to create this stuff.   It's not popular enough to try and go out and play one around here.  Worst case scenario I could build a Hoffman board and throw it in the chassis, and have some leftover switch holes I guess.   Thanks for looking :)

Robben Ford reportedly has used the Red Knob Twin to perform on quite a few occasions (per the guys on the Amp Garage).  I think it could be converted into a Dumble amp pretty easily using the trannies.

with respect, Tubenit
