Hello Everyone!
My name is Chris. I am currently living in Vancouver BC, where it rains 400 days out of every year! We have nice mountains!
I came across this forum after sourcing some parts from Hoffman Amps. Great prices on great components IMO! I have a 5F1 project to build using Doug's parts still, I hope to get to it soon.
Day to day, I am a mechanical technologist. I studied a bit of electronics in school, but since I am in my 30's, any info on tubes in any text was a quick paragraph, and quickly moved onto transistors.
I've played guitar quite awhile now, and know a bit about tube amps in general, and always looking to learn more! So that's why I've joined here!
My tube amp experience is biasing (I built probes years ago, and have been using the DMM & 70%PD method; looking to expand on that). General maintenance i.e. Power Transformer replacement, replacing tube sockets, re-tubing, checking & replacing screen grid & input resistors, and some troubleshooting. I've read a few books on tube amp servicing, and HAM radio repairs. I'm currently going thru Kevin O'Connor's TUT, and Gar Gillie's Garnet Amp book. Some really cool ideas in there!
I've recently inherited some test equipment. Scope, old Heathkit Audio Generator, Variac, some other RF stuff as well. I have a basic idea of how to use them. I have had a couple old emissions-type Tube Testers as well, they seem to work OK.
So my goals in joining the Forum are to learn how to:
- learning more about test equipment
- better my schematic understanding
- better my troubleshooting skills
- learn more about circuits
- contribute what little I know
- make some new friends
That's about it for my intro! Hello to all, and I hope to exchange some knowledge on here, and I plan on asking a lot of questions! To start with my time here, I am dusting off an old 70s Marshall project!
Thanks for reading & hello!
Chris
