Thinking about building a 6G15
« on: January 19, 2017, 10:27:42 pm »
Hi yall,
I "built" a Surfy Bear reverb last year, "A 6G15 reverb unit emulated using JFET/MOS transistors" http://surfybear.weebly.com/fet-reverb.html
and recently finished my first tube amp. I'm not a heavy reverb user, but I like the surfy bear so much I'm now wanting to build the real deal.
I also like tremolo; been using a Tremulator for many years; so I've been also looking at the Revibe and Tore Vibe. Both looks cool but I have a little feeling I could get tired of the sound of the harmonic trem. I haven't played one. From the demos I heard it sounds like a cross between a tremolo and a univibe ( which I also own ).

Maybe I should build a stock 6G15, wait for the Surfy trem; Bjorn, the man behind the surfy bear reverb is coming with a trem kit with switchable brownface and blackface tremolos. https://soundcloud.com/whitespy/surfytrem   and see if the harmonic trem is for me.

Yep, build a stock 6G15.  When you hear difference between LDR and bias mod, you will wonder why they ever went to LDR in BF amps.

I'm going to take the plunge. I ruled out the Re-Vibe, so I'm looking at 3 options:
_ a stock 6G15
_ a Tore-Vibe, 6G15 with bias tremolo
_ or a 6G15 with a Valco / Supro / Gretsch kind of tremolo.
Does anyone have experienced the Tore-Vibe ? Does the added tremolo circuitry have an impact on the 6G15 base tone ?

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
