I'm building yet another AB763 deluxe reverb with bias tremelo in a Hammond AO-43 chassis
i think I have most of the layout figured out.
This one has the tube sockets orientated like a tweed amp so that I can utilize this great sounding cabinet with a JBL D130 in it that I've had for a while


Is this an okay placement for a reverb transformer?
does it need to be on an angle?


(the RCA reverb tank jacks will be right in front of the transformer (two black dots))

Hey mate, Those little transformers don't cause much problems so anywhere on the chassis will be fine. No, it does not have to be angled
I usually place it close to the triode that it is connected to, keeping wires short.

Hey anyone seen one of these units before?
It's out of a small and cramped mono reel to reel chassis. Obviously to provide some shielding
Seems like a cool unit. The 'shield' seems to be aluminum, it has some sort of insulating paper lining inside
and it had chassis insulating washers that I probably won't use.


Think it would be at all beneficial in a smallish somewhat cramped guitar amp?
i've had them kicking around for some months and though it would be cool to use one on the input

Not exactly on the input jack, but I've seen something similar

In an old tube instrument I disounted some time ago there was a similar unit, completed with a rear closure

that was on a pot with shielding porpouse, nice item, I recovered it with the intention to reuse in a future project

I've seen similar shields on power switches mounted on volume controls, mostly in hifi gear. My Magnatone M10A has a similar shield on the power switch. I think it's useless in your DR clone.

These shields come in different forms.
I found an aluminium pill can doing the shielding here.

Ah well I'll leave it out, I just thought it was kind of cute, a little hobbit home for the input jack.

Got the amp pretty well finished. Just have to wire up the footswitch jacks and line out which will be on a separate little panel attached to the chassis like the vibrolux build(hamonilux reverb)
So far it sounds good and everything seems to be working


All voltages seem to be in the ballpark,about plus or minus 5 vdc

Going to give it a better listen tomorrow , then mount it in the chassis and maybe take it somewhere where I can give it a better listen.

My usual chaotic looking layout but very quiet and everything functioning well!
I managed to cram a 1 channel AB763 deluxe reverb with a 6G-11A bias vary tremelo into a Hammond A0-43 chassis
using a tweed like layout with reorientated tube sockets
Still have to wire up the foot switches and line out but that's on a small added bit of chassis
As a result excuse the 22oK resistor slanting across the board (that will be on the reverb footswitch, and the wires hanging outside(which are for the line out from the speaker jack ala my late 70s super)

Well the amp is finished and the cab is being altered to install it
I horribly succumbed to putting orange drops in the signal path(and one solens)
I logically believe that the cheaper smaller ones will work/sound just as well but for the extra few bucks and the work put in, what the hell.
I also finished the little panel to hold the footswitch jacks and the line out


 The cab is one I threw together a long time ago from an antique armoire my &*^*& %$%^ building caretaker bust up!!
I salvaged the wood. It supper nice multi ply (like baltic birch) with a mahogany laminate on the inside and birds eye maple on the outside. It needs a refinish as the old finish is shot and coming off. The front edge around the grill cloth(which is of course salvaged) is old organ maple foot pedals...they would have mitered corners except they're full length on the long sides.
The baffle is a very old piece of countertop ) I think from my folks place.
As I said banged together from what I had and humourously the cabinet with the D130 (hifi not Fender) in it sounds great!


So that's why I built the amp in the tweed tube configuration to utilize this cabinet which is just being test cabinet and bumped around the room.


I did the top cut out roughly and test fit the amp in(I already did roughly)
It seems to fit great
I have to build a back panel(ala the tweed amps) and attach short uprights to screw it to
and a small panel down below
The reverb tank probably needs a bag as well
and the handle will have to be moved to the new 'top'


And the cabinet needs refinishing


As is though everything is working and sounding great

Got a back panel roughed out and installed and gave the amp a good testing at volume today

If you have a cabinet to fit and you want to make a deluxe reverb into a secret weapon, run it through a D130
Really loud, clean and full! Lovely
It does come at a price in weight as it's about 45 lbs just over 8 lbs more than my other deluxe reverb build
Which is pretty well all extra speaker weight

You have racked up a lot of experience on AO-43 conversions. This one looks good too.

Hey, a new member, creekrat, has just started a thread about converting an AO-43 into a Matchless Lightning. Take a look. I bet you have some good ideas you could share with him.
