Installing a relay in the very front of a circuit?
« on: February 22, 2017, 06:45:55 pm »
The standard 2204 JCM 800 has the high and Lo gain input. I want to experiment with switching these. I've done it with a toggle. I can't think of anything that would cause an issue but can anyone think of where it would cause an issue to use a relay here so I can put it on a foot switch. Would just basically remove the second input jack and put it on a relay that (in basic terms) switch the signal from entering the first gain stage and the second stage. I may have to do a little more than this to completely make the first stage float. But before I get too far in it all thought I would ask for some thoughts

Just put the relay very close to the inputs so you don't have to run signal wires helter skelter across the chassis.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thanks Sluckey. I'll give that a try.
