Tweaking a super twin reverb's reverb tone
« on: February 25, 2017, 09:03:58 pm »
I am working on a 1979 super twin reverb.  The 180W amp.

I got it working last weekend with a new sextet of 6L6's and a complete cap job.

The reverb in this amp sounds quirky when compared to my 80W twin reverb.  It has a different tone to it.  This led me to poking around on google and I came across a page that describes a mod to make the reverb more like a blackface.  I'd like to try this mod to see if it helps the tone.  I need some help deciphering the mod...

The mod is described here:

As others have pointed out with the Super Twin Reverb, the reverb itself does not sound very good for many settings on the five-band equalizer. The reason for this is that the input signal to the reverb circuit is taken directly after the tone stack preamp, but before the input stage of the equalizer. The reverb return signal is then mixed with the eq:ed dry signal which gives rise to some nasty frequency clashes in many cases. To remedy this problem, I took the reverb input signal from the equalizer output (the rail from the tube anode that connects all equalizer potentiometers). And suddenly I had something that sounded very much like a nice blackface type of reverb ...

Based on the directions in red...what connections do I change?  I'm not seeing it.

Tinkered around a bit today...in the end I used a different reverb tank to get the reverb tone where I think it should be. Made a big difference, that's for sure.
