underboard jumpers and related...

Hey sluckey (or anyone else who wants to chime in!) ---

After reading some on the subject of "under the board" jumper wires, I came across a pic of how you do it:



After my first build, and doing it completely different AND having other problems, I like the way you do this. But I have a question for you.
When I was doing my Plexi 6V6 build, sometimes there are 3 or maybe even 4 wires that were attaching to the underside of a particular turret (or in my case, eyelet). Not all these wires would fit into said eyelet, though. 2 wires was no problem. 3 wires were a little crowded (I think all were no larger than 20 gauge), but 4 was a problem. they just won't all fit. My solution, while it worked, was ugly as hell. How do you PROFESSIONALS deal with this?

Also, sticking the bare jumper all the way through and bending it over the top is genius! But, what if multiple other things need to go in there? Same problem as the underboard, as I see it.

Please advise?

First off, I use 22AWG bare wire for under-board jumpers. And I only put a max of two jumpers into one turret. There is no need to have 3 or 4 jumpers in the same turret. If you need to connect several turrets together, just daisy chain them together. Look at the jumper guide in this pdf to see what I mean by "daisy chain".

This is not a problem for me. I can easily put 4 component leads, or 3 component leads + 1 jumper, or 2 component leads + 2 jumpers into a single turret with no problem. I don't design any of my board layouts such that you ever need to put more than 4 total component and/or jumpers into a single turret. I will use extra turrets if that case ever arises.

Sometimes I need to use a component that has thick leads. Obviously you cannot put four thick leads into a single turret. I carefully design my boards to avoid this situation.

Hmmm... Im looking at the AC15 pdf. Your under board diagram has several jumpers that cross each other. You use BARE WIRE for that?

Let me clarify that a bit. I have a 5 pound spool of 22AWG bare tinned copper buss wire. In that sense I use "bare wire" for under-board jumpers. But in reality, I put Teflon insulation on the bare jumper wires before I install them under the board. Looks like this...



Now if I had a spool of 22AWG Teflon insulated solid wire, I would use that instead. Sorry for the confusion. BTW, I use that same bare wire for above board jumpers and sometimes I have to put Teflon insulation on that too.
