Looking for switch
« on: March 25, 2017, 10:37:18 am »
Can't seem to find a switch the size of a Carling on/off switch (need to use in an amp's input hole on face frame, I believe it's 3/8"), need a simple STSP on-on-on switch. I see some on Mouser but some are (on) on (on), don't know what the parenthesis mean...? And not sure what would be the right switch from Mouser.

What I want is center - both sides on, and the other two just each side on independently. Just three taps solder tabs. Meaning in the center both the outer tabs are connected. Not looking for a mini switch.

I f a DTDP would work, I don't seem to understand how to wire it. Rather get a STSP

thanks for any help,
al

Not sure, I looked at the data and still not sure.

Here's a pic, three tabs, three positions, lower position connects the middle and lower tab, upper position connects the middle and upper tab, middle connects both.

To fit a 3/8" hole, not a mini switch. appreciate any help, I don't know what to look for at Mouser or another place, like to stay in US.

Thanks, al

That's the hard part. Most toggle switches will require a 1/2" or 1/4" hole. Are you not willing to ream the 3/8" hole so the larger switch will fit? Or use a bushing so the smaller switch will fit?
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

The switch I posted the link is 12.2mm (near 1/2") so not for you

http://www.tube-town.net/info/datenblaetter/apem-600H.pdf

Seems that your problem is a broken lever .... are you able to find one other switch (not ON-ON-ON) that is of the same kind

and borrow the intact lever to be put on your switch ?

if you are looking for a small switch, I've ordered (and received) this from China

4 pieces for 7.59$

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4pcs-Chrome-DP3T-3-Way-Guitar-Toggle-Switch-ON-ON-ON-3-WAY-Control-DIY-Harness-/291645794299?

Franco

p.s.: I forgot, you asked about, "( )= Momentary"

and here how to connect the DPDT ON ON ON for your purpose

EDIT: If yoy want you can use a 2 way 3 position rotary switch (if you find one)

Position 1 = A + B

Position 2 = A

Position 3 = B

I'll mess with diagrams you posted and see if I can get what I want I know there'sa way to get a DTDP switch to do what I want and I have one, thanks.                                               I tried to change the bat toggle but it's fixed, doesn't come out.  Thanks, al

Have you open the switch from the back to pull the lever ?

May be you must use a punch to remove the pivot of the lever

Franco

p.s.: I don't think a DPDT is usable for that purpose, it has 2 useful position ON-OFF-ON and you need 3, if it was possible, no reason for an ON-ON-ON switch

Yeah, the bat has a pin and I can punch it out but I don't have another bat that has a pin to hold it in.

I guess I'll have to use a mini switch and bushing like Sluckey suggested.

If I go with a 1/4" mini switch, what would I look for Doug doesn't carry any on-on-on mini's.

Besides on-on-on what do I need?

Triple throw, single pole?

I like the C&K 7211. Plenty on eBay at reasonable prices. They come in a variety of toggle types. Be sure to get the mini with a 1/4" bushing size. Easy to wire. Look on the bottom of page 2 of this pdf...

Ebay doesn't have any 7211 switches now but I'll dig further in their sellers stores, Mouser has the C&K 7211, it's about $12.50 there. BTW, some cool mods on that link, thanks.

Yes they do. I looked just before I posted. Search for c&k 7211.

I believe digikey has the best price if you don't want to do eBay. I got all mine from eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4pcs-Chrome-DP3T-3-Way-Guitar-Toggle-Switch-ON-ON-ON-3-WAY-Control-DIY-Harness-/291645794299?

you'll wait for it but the price is good and may be a good thing to have a spare part
