New from Kalamazoo
« on: April 02, 2017, 04:11:09 pm »
Greetings fellow guitarists and amplifier geeks. I hope that I have found some of these, 'cause that's what I am. I can't claim to be an old hippie, but I was certainly raised and educated by flower children, growing up in the suburbs of Washington DC in the sixties. I'm more of a Dazed and Confused type of seventies/ eighties wild child.  Caught the guitar bug pretty young -- I was fascinated by the guitar sound on the flip side of that Hey Jude 45 on my mom's Stromberg-Carlson Hi-Fi. Yup, The Beatles Revolution. Gnarly distortion to this day. Still have the 45 record too. So, I won't hesitate to open up an amp and mess with the circuitry, repair and replace smoked components, and dial in that elusive tone, as long as there are tubes involved. My little secret is that I can take a 1950's vintage Stromberg-Carlson lunchbox amplifier and turn it into a guitar tone monster no less impressive than the original Bassman amps and the JTM45. Those old green portables that were meant for PA systems in churches, bingo halls, schools, and outdoor sports events to play that National Anthem before class began (followed by the pledge of allegiance, of course -- we didn't suffer yet from the politically correct plague that concerns so many these days) and provide commentary on the sports events over the roar of noisy cheering fans, actually have MASSIVE transformers in them and can make your ears bleed when converted to guitar use, and others that were meant for soft Muszak in stores make exceptional low volume practice and recording amps. So that's me -- tuned in turned on and dropping in for some conversation. :headbang: :headbang:
