I recall it is something less than 50mA (???).

You should be able to ignore it when determine your 6.3v winding capacity.

If you are using the usual #47 lamp the current is 150mA per lamp. So a pair of lamps would draw as much current as another 12AX7.

its the typical lamp that doug sells, not the LED. the reason i ask is I have a 5a 6.3v to heat 1xax7, 2x5881, 2x12vdc fans, 3xleds which if i round up i figure around 3a total. the baloance of current i want to go to multiple lamps to backlite 2xmarquees and 2xfaceplates, should i just use regular lamps or would there be a better way?

thanks

There are lampholders that hold #381 lamp and are for edge-lighting plexiglass. They mount through a hole in the plexiglass and if the panel is routed the routing is highlighted. Last I looked these were available in red and blue for aircraft cockpit lighting. Got mine from a place out by the airport.

that would be super trick, but im using clear lam over graphics. im triing to figure out a good way to surface ligt the faceplates. my thinking was using a typical lamp just above the face recessed in the cab w/some reflective metal. seems like a pita and just may choose black font over white background and forget the lighting.

i do still want to have back lit marquees tho, i figure 2 lamps per 1x3" sign should be fine, here again clear lam over graphic.

There is another instrument light for surface lighting, see Mouser PN 606-900-200
Four of those with lamps would add another $70 to your project!
Also someone was selling push-on metal covers for #47 lamps that only let the light out on one side but I forget who. Used on vintage radios. Maybe just roll some thin metal stock and slip it over the lamp.
