Suhr Wiring Diagram Question
« on: May 31, 2017, 02:23:12 pm »
I have attached a wiring diagram I plan to use.  If someone could describe to me how the coil tap functions, I would really appreciate it.  I have looked and the "Blower" switch portion is confusing to me and I cannot see how the push pull pot switches off the coils.

Also, if someone knows how the coil taps in PRS 408 Humbucker guitars tap without a volume drop, please advise.

Thanks,

By no means an expert here but.....
Here's an article on the blower switch for single coils.

Thank you! This helps.

Now if I can find out how PRS does their coil tapping.  Really amazing as it is the only coil tap I have played that has the sound of a real single coil.  I have a friend with one of the guitars and he will not let me take it apart.  Wonder why? :l2:

Some "info" on the 408, if you want to call it that.

https://www.prsguitars.com/csc/schematics.html

This looks more helpful though.

Hope it helps.
Thanks, but neither give a reason there is no volume drop and the wiring is really nothing special. I have sort of wondered if the 408 design somehow. The 509 has a noticeable volume drop, but the 408 simply changes to a single coil tone so much that I installed one on a friend's strat at an angle. When in position 4 it is humbucker and middle with a push button to tap. It goes from mean to a true bell like quack and sounds just like a single coil strat with zero volume drop.

My Suhr doesn't drop volume, but the bridge output is very high. Surprisingly not shrill like some hot pups, but PAF tone either. I was or am not really wanting a PAF tone from it as I have this covered.

The rewire of the Suhr is not simple, so I am just wanting to cover my bases best I can. Hoping one of the guitar builders may chime in.
