FAA teaching
« on: June 01, 2017, 09:58:28 pm »
Pretty darn good introduction to electronics, from the folks at the US Federal Aviation Agency.

https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aircraft/amt_handbook/media/FAA-8083-30_Ch10.pdf

Some nifty aircraft stuff at the end is probably no use for g-amp geeks.

Looks like someone made all the pictures shiny! Nice touch.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thank you PRR
Not only will I learn a thing or twelve, this will go in with our training material for new employees.

Great presentation and coverage of AC and DC motor operation.

I've found, that for myself, it has been helpful to read these same concepts from different sources because the different wordings of the same material eventually help me break through and absorb.

That's one heck of a CHAPTER @ 180 pages

And yet not too shiny, like many modern textbooks.

No magic in here. Just the BASICs. Applicable to airplanes, guitar amplifiers, and my 1967 _ORD Tractor. (Which doesn't even have much electricals, being Diesel; but the crank is electric and 50 year old connectors make poor electric circuits....)

> That's one heck of a CHAPTER

I found the rest of it.
https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aircraft/amt_handbook/

Cover, Preface, and Table of Contents (PDF)
    Chapter 1: Mathematics (PDF)
    Chapter 2: Aircraft Drawings (PDF)
    Chapter 3: Physics (PDF)
Chapter 4: Aircraft Weight and Balance (PDF)
Chapter 5: Aircraft Materials, Processes, and Hardware (PDF)
Chapter 6: Aircraft Cleaning and Corrosion Control (PDF)
Chapter 7: Fluid Lines and Fittings (PDF)
Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Inspection Fundamentals (PDF)
Chapter 9: Hand Tools and Measuring Devices (PDF)
    Chapter 10: Basic Electricity (PDF)
Chapter 11: Safety, Ground Operations, and Servicing (PDF)
Chapter 12: Publications, Forms, and Records (PDF)
Chapter 13: The Mechanic Certificate (PDF)
    Chapter 14: Addendum/Human Factors (PDF)
    Glossary (PDF)
    Index (PDF)

Fluid Lines chapter is only 22 pages.

I like this quote. "In a world of ever changing technology, maintainers must remain up to date on current equipment
and how to fix it." Jets, in-flight tracking, collision avoidance?? The picture is of a Continental boxer-Four, engine technology which hasn't changed since before my tractor was designed. (Page 14 of Adendum..Human.)

....and welding machines
It's tough to find guys that have engine and electronics in one package.
Usually the engine guys are too slow to trace a circuit and the electronics guys are too clean to change oil.

In my early days I would be in one OEM class every 6mths to a year "keeping up", In the later years, I would be sent packets in the mail on system differences, then go hang out for a day with another service engineer that had the updated system.

I used to P :cussing:off my old boss when he'd hear me say; "I'm just a glorified truck mechanic"  I would typically ruin a pair of pant or shirt every week from grease, patient slime, hydraulic fluid, all to get to some new fangled sensor, data cable, circuit board!

Of all the schools I've had, hands down my 3 years in the Navy's advanced electronic program was the best by far

Went Class C for efficiency

There's a whole lot more on this site too. Aviation Maintenance Mechanic Vols 1 & 2; How to fly instruments; Even how to fly a Balloon. What? Aside from take off and landing I don't thing anybody really flies a Balloon.

Great Link for the knowledge collector. Thanks.
