Getting More treble out of a 5f2a
« on: June 12, 2017, 02:39:12 pm »
Questions or you guys.
What mods can I do the 5f2a to get a little more treble out of the amp?
Is it as simple as changing the caps on the tone/volume? and is so what would you suggest?
Thanks so much.

You could try a cathode bypass cap on the second triode.
It's gonna add a good bit of gain but you can focus that on the treble side by using a 1uf or lower value.
If you've got an extra cap laying around, it's worth a shot just to see the difference for yourself.
Try anything you've got from 1uf down to .05uf (see chart below)

There should be plenty of treble in that build, as stock....so I would be inclined to try a different speaker.
What speaker are you using now?

Another thing you could try is swapping that first coupling cap out from a .02 to say a .01 or .0047 and see if you like the change.  Basically it should reduce the low end a bit to raise up the treble response.  I seem to find most amps that have a range I like use the .01 coupling caps, but again, the other mentioned idea would also help acheive the same thing.  Basically the coupling cap acts like a filter as well as a DC blocker.
