I am back after some hard times.

I had a week or so in the hospital after a hernia repair and the removal of 6 inched of small intestine that was causing a bowl restriction. Then my dad was in the hospital then sent home with hospice care. He passed a few days later. I did make it up there to spend time with him and was there when he passed.
He had a Zenith tube radio that he told me had quit working after he moved it. At the time I could not take it home because I had flown up and back and could not take it on the aircraft. I did get it home after the funeral. I took a quick look at it and discovered that it has a phono in RCA and a radio/phono switch on the back. The switch was in the phono position. I switched to radio, plugged it in and turned it on. It works like a champ. I wish I had looked at it earlier so he could have listened to his Reds games on it.
Not sure who painted it black. I think I will try replacing the grill cloth and see if I can get the black paint off and put a finish on it.

Has an electrostatic tweeter.

Looks like AC/DC, Hot Chassis so don't try to play guitar through it.

Yes, keep it a radio.  Sorry to hear your loss.  I love Zenith and a Zenith Giant is the reason I know anything at all about electronics.  There is something about the voice these old tube sets have that really do make the great for listening to Baseball.  It certainly is a hot chassis, but the cloth looks like it will wash nicely.  I have had a couple of these I have repaired, but never kept.  Not really my collection era, but I do remember one is particularly great condition.  Has a cherry gloss finish.


Anyway, I am sure you will do it justice and have a very nice piece of family history.

I'm truly sorry for your loss but as other's have said, this is a great way, among many I'm sure to honor him. Don't trip on not getting it Reds worthy sooner. These things hap[pen when they happen. :) As someone who loves Baseball more than anything in this world, even if my team is in the middle of an historic freefall, I can tell you he's seeing every play of every game now. I just know that's how it has to be. Take care.
