traded this for a working ampeg gemini 1. it's a 65-ish super reverb - the PT dates as a 1969 and looks like it was replaced - whoever did it, did very nice work. the OT dates 1964 and the reverb and choke both date 1965. i nursed the amp back to life around 2007 and added the 3 wire AC cord + gave it much needed cap job. some of the PS rail resistors had drifted so i replaced them with NOS AB CC.


the cabinet is totally shot and from a 1973 that i had salvaged, and the speakers this time around came in blown or torn - they were kendrick OEMs. so all i have is fairly decent chassis with vintage transformers and mostly vintage parts.


i think i got chiseled on the trade and the reasoning for subject selected, but i wanted the amp and my friend needed a working amp. so far, i have bought 4 eminence speakers for it and will have a cabinet for it in two to three weeks. thinking i'm going go without tolex since i'm keeping this one.

Why did Fender include the Mid Control on this model?

I don't quite understand the reasoning for leaving off the mid control on the Traditional Deluxe.

probably the selling points of the lineup. deluxe has 2 band EQ & 20 watts with reverb & tremelo & 1 x 12" - step up to the 40 watt model with 4 x 10", and you got the 3 band EQ, reverb & tremelo. marketing. bleh!

Right. My Accord had a twin Acura for a few $K more. You got an exhaust shield that didn't rattle as much, a radio that turned itself down a bit at idle, the bigger carb/cam for a lawnmower's-worth more horsepower, the nicer seats. (Prolly the same shrapnel air-bags...) Somebody in an office plays Russian Roulette with the parts-list to make the same thing different ways at different prices, make sure they can get your last dollar. If one model is one mid-knob more than you can afford today, hey they got a model one mid-knob less.

this diamond in the rough is back up and running with the '73 cabinet. i installed 4 x 10" eminence lil' buddy hemp cone speakers. impressive little speakers: i was doing this on a low(er) budget and thinking that only high end alnco's would do this amp justice, i was wrong. still missing speaker grill so it gets moved with caution and yeah, it's pretty beat looking but sounds oh_so_nice.
