scratch solidbody electric builds
« on: August 11, 2017, 06:51:12 pm »
Hope to have these set up 'n strung by the end of the month.  It's hard to tell without setting one of these bodies next to an actual Tele the subtle differences in shape.  This one is chambered poplar with a sapele bookmatched top and back.  Still need to sand flat and polish.

The neck is fairly plain maple with a grandillo fretboard and maple dot markers.  Putting a shape on it in my outdoor "shop"  :icon_biggrin:

Headstock decals on & ready for clear lacquer burial

This other one is closer to being done, just need to level frets, make a nut and do setup.  Flame maple top over mahogany.

The neck is flamey maple with a wenge fretboard.  My first attempt at inlaying position markers (other than dots which are relatively easy).  I had a friend with a CNC machine make me some wenge p'up rings and knobs and an ebony tonebar.

All wired up, DiMarzio mini-humbuckers on a three-way switch.  Managed to not make any stupid bonehead wiring mistakes, like wiring pots or the switch backwards.  Don't know why, but wiring a guitar or making pedals just seems to kick me in the butt, yet I can wire a tube amp without much difficulty!

Can't wait to try these out!

Love your guitars!  Really stunningly beautiful!  Bravo.  Great job with them.

Nothing quite like a homemade Tele!

These are all chambered also.

Quilt maple over swamp ash,  flame maple over prima vera (white mahogany),  flame maple over alder.

With respect, Tubenit

Got it all leveled, crowned, polished and set up with 10's.  Very happy.  Here's a couple pics.  Unfortunately, jojokeo, I will probably be missing this badly as I believe I've already got a buyer.  The good news is he's a friend, so I will be able to get a recording of it, whether it's him or me playing it!

That looks super! Must be a very special friend. If I made that the only way anyone else would ever get it would be to pick it up at the curb in front of my house after I'm dead.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thanks Steve!  Yeah, we've been friends for a long time, but he's still gonna pay full price  :icon_biggrin:

Thanks Rake - I'm not sure where my dad got it, it was a gift.  It's a Zyliss vice.  It clamps to the edge of a table/bench, so you don't need to bolt it in place.  It's good as lighter duty vice.  It's aluminum.

Got this one strung up and playing nice.  Sapele top/back on semi-hollow poplar core.  The granadillo fretboard is compound radiused 7.25-10", so no fretting out on crazy bends

I am asking $2,500 with case.  Still waiting for my friend to make up his mind if he wants it.  I don't care if he doesn't buy it, I sure wouldn't mind having it back  :icon_biggrin:
