6G13a filter capacitors layout
« on: August 13, 2017, 12:03:13 am »
I'm preparing a build for a Brownface Vibrasonic, and I failed to find a layout for the filter capacitors board, mainly for the hidden wiring. I have a good idea of what it is, but I would like to see pictures or an actual layout to confirm that my wiring is sound.

Thank you!

Similar to a 5G13 (same number and spec of filter caps). Here is a picture underneath a 5G13

To be more specific, I'm looking for the wiring under the eyelet board. I think the negative side of the two rightmost caps are attached to the right black wire, all the other are attached to the left black wire, and that the two rightmost caps are attached on the positive side. But the screw and wire hole at the bottom seem to contradict that.

with power off and caps discharged you should be able to ohm them.

You probably won't find a pic of the underside of that board. The only jumpers will be one to connect the positive of the two reservoir caps together and some ground jumpers for the negative side of the caps. I would ground the two reservoir caps, the screen cap, and the PI cap to the "power ground" at the PT (usually one of the PT bolts). Ground the preamp cap and the two vibrato caps to the "preamp ground (usually located near the input jacks). This keeps the noisy power amp grounds separated from the quiet preamp grounds.

I can't swear this is the way Fender has the cap board ground jumpers installed, but this way will work very well.

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
