mounting amp chassis within headshell
« on: October 18, 2017, 04:26:05 pm »
working on my 4th build and want to get ideas for mounting the chassis a bit more professionally than my first 3 - which i basically used a few L-brackets along the back of the chassis bolted thru the shell, with the front of chassis slipping just under the front panel to keep it in place.  It works but gives a DIY look to an otherwise pretty nice shell.  I'm sure there are many creative options for mounting chassis, and probably posted on here somewhere.
Any ideas or links appreciated!
Denny

Now that's cool - have you ever tried using that rivnut on the inner flange that's on most of the standard hammond chassis?

Old Sunn chassis had a different style rivnut mounted on the inner lip. Works just fine if you measure accurately for the location of the holes in the cab.

Those Hammond chassis may not be thick enough to offer much holding power for the compression type rivnuts.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Hey guys, I always seem to have trouble drilling holes in the chassis that have the wings bent outward, and then matching/drilling the holes in the wooden head cab.

How do you guys go about measuring? And do you drill the holes in the bottom piece of wood before connecting the sides of the cab?
Any tricks you care to share ha!
