Need advice re: Bluetooth and wireless headphones
« on: November 06, 2017, 09:59:49 pm »
Hello fellow gear heads; I have a problem, or actually my wife has a 'hard of hearing' problem. We just started going to a new church and, as always, she has trouble getting a clear feed from the pastor's wireless headset mic. His mic Rx is run through a pretty simple analog mixing brd. I would like to be able to add a Bluetooth device to the board so my wife can use wireless headphones in church. I know zero about Bluetooth so I am asking for advice on how to achieve a wireless headphone signal in church for those hard of hearing? I own a Tascam analog to digital mic and instrument device already so maybe that would be needed to achieve a digital signal? If there is some better method/route to achieve this than Bluetooth or similar, please offer that route and I'll check it out.

Thanks amigos,  Jack D

New Bluetooth is good for about 65 feet. Older BT is good for 30 feet. Will that work in your church?

If so, all you need is a transmitter to plug into your board audio source. May need an adapter. They usually come with rechargeable batteries and a USB connector that can be used for power and to charge batteries. Some claim several hours on a charge. Here's a brand that I know works well...

https://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Wireless-Headphones/dp/B0769Q8YW1/ref=dp_ob_title_wld

You also need a set of BT headphones. You can spend as little or as much as you want here. Since you are mostly interested in voice you may want to concentrate on lightweight and cheap. I think you can even get BT earbuds!

Spend a little time looking on Amazon. Just remember, all you need is a BT transmitter and BT headphones. Most of this stuff is easy to pair up and many will remember the last device it was paired with.

I have a 30 foot TaoTronics transmitter connected to the back of my bedroom tv and a set of Klipsch BT speakers on my headboard. Works great, but there is a delay between the BT% speaker audio and the tv audio so I have to turn the tv sound off.

EDIT... Looks like affordable headphones are limited to 30 feet range.

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

You can go to a BestBuy store for a hands on experience. And those young geeky clerks will actually be able to talk with you about Bluetooth.
