Board drilling
« on: November 09, 2017, 09:19:13 am »
Just read the post from the poster looking for a board drilling template and it got me to thinking about what I do...I guess I don't care to be as neat as some do. I lay out my board on a piece of paper (I do use a ruler to set the spacing) tape the paper to a blank board and drill using a drill press. Guess I have built a dozen or so amps this way.. I pay a lot of attention to how I route wires. Do the best I can soldering. pay no attention to color of wire used. I just use what I have handy. I strive to build an amp that is very quiet and sounds like the amp I am cloning. But, then, I am not trying to make a living building amps. Most are built for someone that asks me if I will build one for them. If they want an amp that I want to build then I will. I charge them what I have in the amp. I don't buy any pre finished components, ie. chassis, front/back plates or boards. It is a hobby to me and I do love it. p.s., may be the reason that I don't like to post gut shots of my builds.

That's basically what I do also, except I use the computer to make the drawings.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

I use pressure sensitive removable adhesive label stock so I can print out the layout and stick it on if it is a complex build.  Then I just use a spring loaded center punch and drill baby drill.

I actually like making them, but Doug will drill a custom one with his CNC for a good price.  Just click the dots.

Sometime I just eyeball and align the eyelets or turrets with the tube sockets.  Sometimes I use none at all.

Good plan. Many computer cases have a hole-array in the side panel. Take your Win98 PC, snip out the holy part, align that on your board-stuff, perfect alignment.

I keep my Win98 for surfing the web, it's isolated, insulated and so out dated it's almost virus proof :icon_biggrin:
If I do find something worth saving, i'll man'uel the url and use my Win 7 starter

I wouldn't say I am a hack, but I can certainly access the largest part of the internet.  Whaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!, the Dark Web.

I like the idea of using an old computer case.  Seems ready and something I cannot seem to get rid of.  I hate to admit it, but I still have a Win 95 machine and a Mac Quadra for those who remember.  For those who do not, I purchased the Mac and a 8 mg Ram (not 8 gigs) and the uncharge was 1086.00 dollars.

I am cutting them all down to sheet metal today, except the Mac Quadra because it is PLASTIC with a metal frame.

I still have to do my homework, but you can't get there from here :icon_biggrin:
my guess is it's ftp type access, I still have Kermit.  What caught my attention, you can hire folks to kill ppl, launder money, buy drugs, yadeda, all anonymous, and NO, I have NO interest in "making deals" for ANY services, I just get bored, and I'm poorish, sooo, cheap fun :l2:.  I have a virgin win 98 with a hacked MAC address, plenty of free WIFI, I probably won't get far, but :dontknow:

Download  the tor browser. Simply use it. You can gain access with it. Consider a VPN if you plan to hire a gunslinger.

It's funny, my old life I made contact with engineers, the last glass blower for GE x-ray tubes.....
my new life selling beer bait n gas in my rural community  provides me with contacts for all the trades, including the bad ones.  I had a great conversation on breaking into cars, tips n tricks, makes n models :icon_biggrin:   The last car I opened took 15seconds, took 20minutes for the dad that locked his kid n keys in the car to calm down enough to drive!!!
