Attaching a file - losing all your text if the file is too large
« on: November 16, 2017, 07:58:45 am »
According to the SMF forum guys, there is no way to save your text if you get the file too large error when trying to add an attachment

What I did was add a line of red text next to the Attach File text to remind you to copy all your text first, before attaching a file and hitting the post button

May depend on your browser? (Not something the SMF forum software can control.)

I just did a test. "Test" and a too-big image. Got the "File too big" message.

There was a "back" link under that. Ignore it! Try pressing BackSpace (browser back-button).

My installation of FireFox on Win7 goes-back and has the text in the box. (It knows you might want it, and had it cached.)

Obviously this may differ on other browsers, or other installations of the same browser.

Any *serious* typing, do it in NOTEPAD (or similar), copy to reply window. You have a larger work-space. You can go back-forth Alt-Tab instead of scrolling up/down. When the forum barfs or the browser crashes, you still have your text for another attempt.
