« on: December 12, 2017, 03:27:01 pm »
HI
Anybody out there try a 4 X 8" speaker cab?
Kind of a mini super reverb sound
or have experience with amps with multiple 8" speakers?

I don’t have the experience with multiple 8” speakers... yet, but I’m working on a verticlal 2x 8” combo design.  I’m very interested to hear what others’ experiences might be.

I have found that the WGS 8” speaker suits my taste in the Valve Jr. combo I have.  I would also be interested in hearing what 8” speakers are favored by others.

Some blues harp players like 4 x 8", even 6 x 8" loaded cabs.

Gibson used to make a 6 x 8" loaded amp in the 50's. There's a picture or 2 of Little Walter playing thru that amp, so a few different guys got a hold of 1, tried them and....... new holy grail harp amp tone. No one really knows if Little Walter ever owned 1 or even recorded with that amp.

Victoria has built Champs with 2 x 8" cabs, some guys like/love them. I think he'll still make a Champ like that as an option?  :dontknow:

Here's an update on this
I came into 5 nice little 10-15 watt 8" drivers for relatively cheap $20 each ceramic, Radio Deakers Canada I believe 1972
Alledgedly originallyout of a traynor PA, one of those ones with tall columns of 4-5 speakers each

Anyway banged up a rough 1/2' play baffle to fit one of my deluxe builds(i don't try to copy fender cabs but make my own) This one is 21" by 18" inside dimensions so enough room for 4 x 8
I just put the baffle on shelf with a speaker cab on either side and a board overtop to simulate a cab and it sound surprisingly nice and big. I'm going to go ahead and put grill cloth on it and put it in the deluxe for a while.
It's easily as loud as the the 2 emminence 1016s (which are 100 db sensitivity so efficient) and fuller sounding.
neat a 22 watt mini super!

8" speakers by nature are not efficient speakers as compared to 12's and only a couple 10's available with high efficiency. Not that it's "bad" but definitely will suffer with high end usually but I would imagine you would retain some bass response? Curious of your findings when the actual baffle is built and installed?

Amp sounds real good, guitar not so much :(  Who's in charge of doing the tuning? (Only teasing Timbo) :)
