Deluxe Reverb Rebuild Project - 6L6
« on: December 27, 2017, 03:38:05 am »
Here is a DR I did a new board for.  This amp came to me pretty messed up and was in bad need of a re-work.  It was kind of a build gone bad and sounded like it too.  The fastest, easiest way was to start over with a proper board and components.  The trannies look to be from a Bassman.  The turret board itself came from a buddy of mine that was slated for an old project he had but never started, thus all the extra holes...  I loaded it up with Mallory 150s and metal films so she is very quiet and sound very nice as well.

One issue I had during the fire up was an odd behavior when turning the mid control.  After scratching my head for awhile it turned out to be a bad triode in V2 - strange but true.

So if any of you are considering building a Deluxe Reverb maybe these pics will inspire you to get started.  Doug's boards IMHO is the only way to go.  In fact, you can get everything you need right here...

Cheers,

Nice work. Just might inspire me to convert my TRRI to a turret board.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Looks like you pretty much gutted that amp and started from scratch?
Guides on your quest for tone.
Oh yeah, and I'm usually just kidding so don't take me too seriously.

Yeah, I kinda had to.  It was so bad it really was much faster for me to start over and not have to discover all the secret bugs hiding in there.  The builder used a fiber board which is pretty awful in my book.  They never solder good for me for one thing.  Doug's G10 boards are THE only way for me.  Once I tore it down I found tons of errors which were corrected.  Now the owner can rely on this amp to not fail, and most of all sound great.  So GUT JOB is where I landed
