Hi everyone,
Let me start by thanking you all for sharing your passion. I'm about to start building a Fender Deluxe 5E3 clone using a Hoffman turret board and parts sourced from a few places. I would not have had the confidence to start a project like this if it had not been for the wealth of information shared on this and other pages about how to build valve amps.
I did a degree in electronics 22 years ago but I got offered a job in IT which meant I never used what I learned and by now I've forgotten pretty much all of it. I've picked up a book on valve amp design and some things are familiar but as my degree was mostly around solid state IC and RF design, there are many gaps :)
I'm not a guitar player, I played the drums as a teenager and I have always had a keen interest in "audio gear" and I've dabbled with electronic music. The main reason I'm building this amp now is that my son has been playing a guitar for two years now and he's getting quite good so I wanted to build him an amp as his digital VOX VX1 sounds harsh and nasty. I wanted to buy him something with a nice tone and while doing my research I found these pages and now I've taken my first tentative steps into electronics again. I'm quite excited and look forward to learning more.
Regards,
Gisli.
