Hew Horsie Overdrives added to line up
« on: January 01, 2018, 12:44:45 pm »
Well I've started building guitar effects foot pedals for my local market and the first one I've been working on is the MIT designed "Horsie" Overdrive pedals.  I just finished the first unit and it sounds great.  So I'm going to make a few of these as several local players have expressed interest in them.  I found that the available build instructions for the different available kits are pretty week so I will be creating a PDF of build instructions and document the building of this next unit in this thread.  If you haven't heard one of these units you're missing out as they are really great sounding pedals.  Of course it's not an original but that's OK as I wouldn't want something worth over $2k being stomped on by my big foot.  I'm using the kit from the Landtone Musical Accessories Store but I'm replacing the supplied 1N34A germanium diodes with Russian D9E version diodes in this next pedal to see if there is really any tonal difference between the two.  Below are a couple of links to youtube videos with the "Horsie" pedal paired with a deluxe reverb in one and with an AC30 in the other video.  There are many other Youtube vides with the pedal used.  I think the first video really shows what a Deluxe Reverb can do with the right pedals.  What a fantastic amplifier!:

Thumbs up.  Great combo.  My Klone is my favourite pedal.

Joel,
I have to agree.  The Klone pedal and the HDR are a match made in heaven tonally.

Well I see that this post was moved to effects as "the post is about a pedal"  but actually the post is about a specific amplifier coupled with a pedal.  The reason I posted it in the amplifier forum was to bring to the attention of all HDR builders how well this amp and pedal combination go together.  So, potato, potatto I guess but now it will be seen by only those few looking for effects information rather than those trying to find a way to make their DR sound better. :dontknow:  Maybe we should move Sluckey's thread on the stocking stuffer O'scope out of the amp forum into the Amp tools and tech stuff forum huh?

The first clip with a Strat a Klon and a Del Reverb sounds a lot like the Mark Knopfler style of playing.
