Hi: I have built a bunch of amps, but this is my first amp build post here. I have been reading posts here daily for a while, and really like all the innovations here.
This chassis started out as an 18 watt Marshall clone with and EF86, but i just never bonded with it.
I like Steve's builds so I wanted to try one, so I built his S6424.
This was my first attempt at this type of board layout, and I failed miserably because I basically did it backwards, after drilling all the holes in a piece of masonite ( chosen because of the color that looks supro-ish) and installed 3/4 of the turrets I realized I was upside down!! *(*(@... oh well
I didn't want to use 50 more turrets, because I live way up North in Canada and our buck isnt worth much and shipping is expensive.
So I decided to accept my booboo. its kinda messy but that doesn't matter as this thing is dead quiet. The tremolo didn't work until I realized I missed a jumper, but after that all was good.
So this is a lesson to double check and in my case triple check. Thanks Steve for making this schematic and build info, it was very helpful especially the notes for measuring voltages.
My plate voltage is higher at 356, but that should be ok.
I really like the sound of this thing and when I run it through my homemade attenuator, I can really crank it. It also takes my fuzz and OCD really good. I have a Tonebender I made but someone borrowed it and wont give it back, I Had wanted to see how LED Zeppy I could get with the 2
Anyways, don't laugh too much, it's a little ugly but sounds great and that's all that matters
