Matchless Lightning chassis
« on: March 06, 2018, 12:05:32 am »
I have the bug again so this time I am planning a build for a Matchless Lightning. I have looked at Sluckeys November/Lightning conversion. I think I am going to use a Hammond PT with something between 250-0-250 and 290-0-290, not sure on the OT yet. Everything else seems pretty straightforward but what size chassis works best for this build? I like to use stand up iron so I can save room inside the chassis.

Hi...  Check out user  zachmdhunter on sleaze-bay.  He has a bunch of different punched and blank chassis.  Heavy duty steel construction and always on size quoted.  Personally, I would put it in a brownface blank chassis and drill all of your own holes.  That's what I did for my SLuckey AC-15.  Yeah can see it a little in my post about the build.  I get the brownface' in quantity cause I build a couple different amps using them.

Good luck
-Jeff

My chassis is 20" x 6" x 2-1/2". You can have it and the unpopulated boards for $30 plus actual shipping if interested.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thanks for the replies. Dang I was really hoping to use a shorter chassis after my TOS builds. 😉 SLuckey, is the chassis you have an the actual one from your build? Drilled out already?

The chassis and boards are the actual ones you see in the web pics of my Lightning. My Lightning became a donor for my AC-15 amp.

WYSIWYG...

You could use that blank aluminum chassis Doug sells. I think it's basically a blank 18 Watt chassis.

Thanks sluckey. I wish I had those kind of "spare parts" laying around. Drilling the chassis and working the layout is part of the adventure for me. What size choke did you use for this amp?

Nice chassis and board Slucky.

I built the Matchless Lightning (non reverb) into a Fender Blues Jr, nice and small 1-12" cabinet.
