Stout TMB- Suggestions for an extra tube socket?
« on: March 09, 2018, 01:44:19 pm »
I’m considering retrofitting my Blues Jr. into a Stout TMB. The chasis is designed for EL84s(x2) and 12AX7S(x3). So five tube sockets. The Stout requires only four tube sockets (EL84 x2 & 12AX7 x2) and solid state rectification. I’m wondering what I could use the extra tube socket for(switchable extra gain, Tremolo, or Reverb, etc)? Seems like a waste not to take advantage of it. Let’s hear some ideas!

I’m not the kind of player that would really need an effects loop. But that’s always an interesting idea. Are you suggesting a tube powered effects loop?

There are a number of suggestions in this thread for a Blues Jr. conversion including to a HoSo56:

However, if you want to try a one tube reverb approach, then maybe consider the attached schematic.

One tube reverb sounds perfect! I have a little tank that’s supposed to be an upgrade to
the one that came with the amp. Now it looks like it may finally get some use ;-)

A reverb tank designed for the original BJ circuit is not compatible with this one tube reverb circuit.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

This uses the "Fender" type replacement reverb transformer and tank that Hoffman sells. Same one you'd use for a Princeton Reverb.

From the ARCHIVES thread with lots of info on "one tube reverb" here:  http://el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=7957.0
