using a pentode to drive a tremolo circuit?
« on: March 31, 2018, 10:42:43 am »
usually it seems most schematic i have seem has a 12ax7 or the like to run a tremolo, has anyone used a pentode like a 6sj7 or similar to run a tremolo circuit, is it due to the "dual triode" or dual amp stages(pre and post)? if so can 2 pentodes (pre and post) be used? i have a couple 6j7 with grid contacts sticking out the top of the tube that i want to used for something. i have a bunch of good unused tubes i would like to play with. for instance i got a great deal($20 +18shipping) on a 1951 revere reel to reel, inside was all rca 2x6j7, a 6sj7, 6k6 and the exception is the 6v6 which is this beautiful sounding national union 1951 black glass .

Look at some Silvertone schematics, 1300 and 1400 series.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

I think this one on the Silvertone 1482 and Dano Centurian 275  (very similar amp as 1482) is a great tremolo.  It's always been my favorite.

Uses a 6AU6.  A 5654 will work well also.

Here there is an article about oscillators

Working with Phase-Shift Oscillators - December 1958 Popular Electronics

they talk (really a bit) also about pentode oscillators

Thanks a lot guys gives me some interesting reading.  I figured it could be done with a pentide. I imagine it changes tone a bit too. Awesome.i really want to build amps with unique tone
