« on: April 06, 2018, 04:40:56 pm »
Can anyone here recommend a place to have custom steel amp chassis made and powder-coated? Thanks!

take a drive, even in the sticks of MI, there are 2 "job shops" that will make chassis for me, and I know at least 2 car painters that can powder coat.  You can even use the internet to find local suspects  :icon_biggrin:

I’ve looked and made a few local calls. A few shops are doing it but they want crazy money-anywhere from$ 40 to $60 per chassis 😳

You've got to remember, there's setup time when dealing with one off stuff.
It's not like they can absorb the cost with a large order. If they're using a CNC machine
to do all the penetrations, the program has to be written and proven. If the holes
are in the wrong place then you won't be happy. All the drilling, milling, bending and welding
needs to be done prior to power coat.

If you used stainless for a chassis you could forget about powder.
A little polishing and the chassis would shine like a newborn's bottom.
Solid state has no soul........

Unfortunately, prices quoted were for powder coating only. I have been buying custom-sized blank steel chassis and cutting all the holes myself — I just wanted to get them coated.
If I could find a producer that could deliver a custom-sized, punched and coated chassis for $60, I'd happily pay it.
