Thanks guys the experimentation begins. I liked the tweed style in the previous 3 amps I built. On this one it wasn't behaving correctly. I know that the basic tweed control is supposed to be low loss but in this amp it's way to interactive. I tried to vary the cap value using multiple sizes and it either sounded like garbage or it weakened the bite of the amp to the point that it sounds significantly better in every way with just pre and post volume/gain knobs. It also seemed more interactive than the same tone circuit in the other amps I built.
The thing is I would like slightly to have a slight bit more treble overall and when I hook up the tone in configs I know about it looses the mojo . I tried several bright caps but either it was too much chalkboard fingernails or it just sounded off in away. I will look into experiments but it dawns on me what would be ideal would be to have a rotary control that would blend in or out a frequency for instance, the 560pf when I placed it on the volume it seemed not bad but there seemed to be too must off whatever it contributed to the tone. Maybe I need to look a install a pot to blend a brite cap in as much as I want in a given circumstance. Is there any tone circuits like this in existance???
