single channel ab763 deluxe reverb - 6v6?
« on: May 18, 2018, 02:44:38 pm »
Hi all
Long time lurker, first time poster :)
I'd like to build a single channel ab763 with reverb and trem
I note Dougs single channel project calls for 6l6 output tubes and larger transformers(like a super reverb), where as the two channel (traditional DR) uses 6v6 tubes and smaller iron.

I all ready have two 6l6 amps and id really like a conventional 6v6 DR sound but just without the clutter of the 'normal' channel that I never use.

My question is can I just follow the same hoffman single channel ab763 schematic/layout/bill of materials except for the power tubes and transformers (which I would substitute deluxe reverb rather than super reverb type iron and tubes) ?

Thanks, and sorry if this seems like a silly question. Im a bit of a newb but I have done some builds in the past, but not for a few years.

I'd say a qualified yes;
here's the 6V6 I looked at;

your B+ tap for the PA tubes, and bias range on Doug's version need to be checked against the 6V6 version, but it's running 415vdc at plate so, guessing that is comparable to Doug's  :dontknow:

Went Class C for efficiency

The AB763 is a family of amps, not a single amp. The whole family uses the same schematic but a few parts are different. Look at this BOM  and schematic for the 2 channel AB763. They list all the different parts for the different models within the AB763 family. Basically, the transformers and power tubes are the only things that are different. However, there are some differences in small components too.

Study these and then apply to the single channel amp.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Yeh that answers my question
Minor changes in small parts but mainly transformers and power tubes
Appreciate the input
