Tremolo Upgrade?
« on: May 19, 2018, 10:44:59 am »
Looking at getting another Tremolo for my Strat copy. So, I am looking at a Gotoh 510T-SF2 not the 510TS-SF2 model, https://g-gotoh.com/international/product/510t-sf2.html. The T model has a different block than the TS, (the TS has a full sized big block) . The (T) has whats Gotoh calls a FST Block, which is slotted different to allow the strings to not touch the block and have a straight shot to the Saddle. Question. anybody here ever used this model tremolo? Is it / would it, be worth the trouble?. My body has the vintage 6 screw mount Fender spec at 2 7/32" and I want to go with the narrow string spacing at 2 1/8". Very few Trems out there fit this spec.  Any thoughts or recommendations will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Note to self: Do not Tic-off the Dentist before needed work, And do not Tic-off the Rectial surgen before needed surgery. Makes for Two V-bad weeks.

I don't use trem, so can't give advice. However, I often stumble onto Fender guitar forums where there's plenty of opinions on everything. Good luck with your search!

I just installed the Callaham 6 screw trem bridge with brass block on my Mexican.  High quality manufacture.  Easy to install.  It floats and stays in tune.  I know nothing about Gotoh.  Jim

The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench--a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men left to die like dogs.   There is also a negative side.

I just read interesting advice on Man Enhanced and installed the Callaham 6 screw trem bridge with brass block on my Mexican.  High quality manufacture.  Easy to install.  It floats and stays in tune.  I know nothing about Gotoh.  Jim

How similar are Callaham and Gotoh Tremolos? Did you end up getting that Gotoh, Cree?

I like the Fender Deluxe trem a bunch
Stays in perfect tune for all the surf type stuff I do

Knife edge trems are way better than 6 screw trems for the stuff I do
No goofy screw in trem arms

I changed out the saddles for graphite saddles just to see what that did
So far so good after a couple years

This is the parts group I used for my scratch build

Here's a close up pic of the original saddles that come with the Fender Deluxe trem
Way more solid and precise than a stock strat bridge saddle
